Our Mission

The Focus of Our Efforts

Recognising the enormity of the challenges our wildlife faces, Scales Conservation Fund is dedicated to making a lasting impact through our campaigns and programs. While our efforts are driven by our organisation’s singular focus, we spread a wide net by investing in a variety of progressive projects. Learn more about our initiatives and get involved yourself.

Protection

Effective anti-poaching initiatives are essential in protecting all wildlife and the natural habitats they rely on to survive. Ensuring future generations can enjoy our natural world and the incredible species that live within it.

Education

Education and Protection go hand in hand. Without one the other can not succeed. It is imperative that communities living in natural areas are taught the importance of conserving their natural heritage, in order to benefit from it in years to come.

Rehabilitation

Wildlife rehabilitation is to provide professional care to sick, injured or orphaned wild animals, so they can be returned to their natural habitat. This is especially crucial for the survival of endangered species.

Our Projects

Working together, we can make a real difference!

Recognizing the enormity of the challenge wildlife faces, Scales Conservation Fund is dedicated to making a lasting impact through our campaigns and partnered projects. We have partnered with ethical and passionate conservation non-profit organisations to assist them in creating awareness and to help them in raising the funds they so desperately need. This not only ensures that the critical work can continue to be done, but also enables the experts to focus on the job at hand. Learn more about our Partner Projects and get involved yourself.

Pangolin Rescue Fund

The Pangolin Rescue Fund is a Scales initiative aimed at creating awareness about the rapidly escalating and urgent need to save pangolins from the illegal wildlife trade. Working with the experts, we provide funding to cover the extensive treatment and rehabilitation an individual pangolin must go through after being rescued from the illegal wildlife trade, so that they may be successfully released back in to the wild.

ReWild Rehabilitation Centre

ReWild is one of the very few rehabilitation centers in South Africa that specialises in the care, treatment and rehabilitation of bats. Whilst the team helps all wildlife in need, the centre has special facilities that caters for the unique requirements of bat rehabilitation. Founded by Jane Burd, who is widely regarded  as one of South Africa's top bat rehabilitators, ReWild is the go-to centre for all things batty.

Kogelberg Wildlife Rescue Centre

The Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve is the oldest biosphere reserve in South Africa and covers around 100 000 hectares – an area larger than Singapore! It has the richest, most complex biodiversity on earth, home to more than 1 880 plant species. Of these, 77 are endemic. The seascapes are also significant: more than 3 500 endemic marine species. KBR are establishing the first permitted Wildlife Rescue Centre in the Western Cape, providing wildlife rescue and animal wildfire search & rescue for the unique species that occur in the area.
